Summer rain

Gentle-watch the rain cloud
As it falls towards the green
Only when it touches earth
Is every droplet seen.

Silvery rain drifts its way
Along each stem and flower
The earth beneath lives and grows
Enlivened by the hour.

If we could hear above the drops,
If we fell as soft and sweet
We would know the life which grows
Beneath our quick'ning feet.
